Einmal im Jahr fährt mein Quiltverein zum Nähwochenende am Chiemsee. Es ist auch immer herrlich! 2 1/2 Tage nur nähen, umgeben von anderen Nähbegeisterte, bedient vom Hotelpersonal – ohne Kochen oder Putzen – da kann man viel schaffen.
Dieses Jahr fahren wir am 2. März Wochenende und deswegen bereite ich mich gerade vor. Was für Projekte will ich mitnehmen? Wie kann ich sie gut vorbereiten? Was brauche ich sonst?
Ich nehme gründsätzlich einen Rollkoffer und meine Nähmaschine mit. Das heißt, nicht so viele Kleidung und gut überlegte Nähzutaten. Ich hoffe mit 3 Quiltoberteile wieder zu kommen. Ein Projekt habe ich schon die Streifen geschnitten. Und ich brauche mein Inch-Lineal um die genähte Streifen wieder zu unterteilen. Ein anderes Projekt habe ich heute früh vorbereitet. Es handelt sich um Baumwollvierecke mit französischen Knoten, die ich einrahmen will und ich einem Quilt setzten will. Hier habe ich die Vierecke gerade geschnitten, die Sashing-Stück geschnitten und auch die Sashing-Ecken. Also, ab in die Tüte und mitnehmen.
Für das dritte und vierte Projekt werde ich noch meine Vorräte durchsuchen und mir etwas überlegen. Und dann einfach auf Verdacht ein paar schöne Stoffe, da wir meistens iregendetwas Kleines nähen – einfach so.

Once a year my quilt group goes on a weekend retreat at the Chiemsee. And it is always great! We just sew and sew and sew – for 2 1/2 days I am surrounded by others who like to sew, I am waited on by the hotel staff – don’t have to cook or clean – and I am able to sew on a lot of projects.
This year we are going on the second weekend of March and that’s why I’m getting ready now. Which projects do I want to take with me? How can I get them ready? What else do I need?
In general I take my suitcase on wheels and my sewing machine. That means I’m not taking that many clothes, but lots of sewing stuff that I really need. I hope to come home with 3 quilt tops. One of the projects has already been cut. And I need my inch-ruler to cut the strips into sections once I’ve sewn them. I got another project ready this morning. It is a pile of cotton squares with designs embroidered on them using French knots. I plan to set them into a quilt with sashing and cornerstones. So I just cut the cornerstones and the sashing. Now to put it all in a bag and take it with me.
For my third and fourth projects I will look through my closet and my stash and think of something I want to do. Plus, I’ll take a few fabrics I like just in case – we usually sew a small project.
